I got the new Richeson pastel sticks in yesterday afternoon and have been working on this lab this morning. The new sticks are nice and they are very pigment-rich but they still don't cover the pencil marks or even over darker colors.I think I'm giving this one up as I just can't seem to get it to where I want it to go. It must be the pastelmat support as none of the light colored pastels seem to want to cover over darker ones. I've never had that problem with any other support, or at least not to this degree. So, I think I'm going to start over again on another support - velour perhaps or maybe pastelbord or even colour-fix - I'll have to see what I have on hand.
This is such a pretty dog in her photos and I want to do her justice in my painting of her. But, it's just not happening. That's the way it goes sometimes. Usually I can work over areas to make corrections but not this time. As I said, it must be the pastelmat paper as I'm using the same pastels I always have except for the new ones. There seems to be plenty of tooth left but the colors just aren't covering as they usually do.
I'll let you know when I start over or if I have a miraculous break-through with this one! lol

I don't know the dog but what I see is a warm and friendly dog full of love. I guess you did give him justice and I like that painting very much. It has a special Jan-style and looks indeed a bit like watercolor. Good work.

Actually, I've played with this a bit more and it's beginning to look a little better.
From my viewpoint he looks beautiful!
